The Finishing Brushes

Hey y’all, thanks for taking a look at our last installment for the current project at Covenant Community Church…at least for now.

We’ve been having a blast painting these fun rooms for kids lately. Though at the end of a project, that typically takes six to eight weeks, the consensus usually is, “Whew, glad that’s done…” but then we gotta’ ask, “Okay…where’s the next one?” And start looking…

But before we wax  eloquent, or not, take a look at the room now that it’s been clear-coated and cleaned up a bit…

The first few pics will give y’all a panoramic from center…

DSC00671 DSC00694 DSC00695 DSC00696 DSC00697 DSC00698 DSC00699 DSC00700

Okay, for the rest of these pics we’ll go through the same sequence using closeups…

DSC00674 DSC00675 DSC00672 DSC00673 DSC00680 DSC00681 DSC00682 DSC00683 DSC00684 DSC00685 DSC00686 DSC00687 DSC00688 DSC00689 DSC00690 DSC00693 DSC00691 DSC00692 DSC00677 DSC00678 DSC00676 DSC00679 Well that just about wraps up this project…for now. We will try to get some more once the room is totally finished or at least provide links to more.

Thanks to everyone who helped in this endeavor by providing your time, energy and ideas. It worked out great!

And thanks to y’all for stopping by the virtual studio of relevancy…let us know what ya’ think and check back to see new worx coming soon!

Until next time…

Whew, been a busy week trying to get this completed so that now the playground stuff can get put together and then covered back up…

Well at least we’re half way there…time for a cold one and a very, very small break.

Adding New Life = Greens

Thanks for stopping by our little virtual studio to see the progress on our latest  mural. The mid-ground colors…

On a giant mural like this we attack in different ways, a lot of general (base coats) colors get worked on throughout the room before we start adding the details, which will be on our next installment. We also layout things a few ways from opaque projection to by-eye sketching with a paint gun to brush work which allows for some cool textures that are almost impossible with airbrush…or would take too long.

This episode, we start to work in the greens to the work to add a taste of life…so refreshing and…I’m gonna have to order more of it! But check this out so far:

Img2014_08_30_16-34-04 Img2014_08_30_16-34-31 Img2014_08_30_16-34-56 Img2014_08_30_16-35-16 Img2014_08_30_16-36-03 Img2014_08_30_16-36-10 Img2014_08_30_16-36-34 Img2014_08_30_16-37-03

Fluorescent Green is an astounding ‘base color’ (sometimes FL. Yellow before this!). It has the transparency to allow the blues and darker colors to come through (allowing for shadows later), but still has the punch for highlights…AND it makes it own light. So when indoors, I like to use them for part of the base because it seems to cause all the other non-florescent colors to also ‘glow’ to some degree. It really livens up the color. HINT:Trade secrets found here! Can also see some of our animal cut-outs awaiting their colors too…Img2014_08_30_16-37-24 Img2014_08_30_16-37-36Here we have toured the whole room and we can see a little of the front right of the stage behind a tired artist:

The In-Between Time…

Welcome and thanks for taking time to look at our on location ‘virtual studio’ as it were. Sometimes when you are working a job, you are hit with an extra one…stat!

When sometimes you may want to turn away work because a huge job demands your time, the extra cash comes in handy – especially in these troubled times!

So naturally, in a more than necessary exhuberant way, we picked up this next job to paint and we had a weekend to do it…which meant two days for the artist to do it all. We figured easy, enough…little did we know.

Anyway, here is the gig in all it’s ‘glory’ and it goes to God!

So I got this welding helmet to paint...

Img2014_08_24_10-29-48 Img2014_08_24_10-29-32

Normally, I wouldn’t use sharpie, but the bleed through helps the ‘electric arc look’ of this piece…as we’ll see later. Next we buff up the surface to hold paint. It also doesn’t matter about the sharpie, but reference lines are there for a reason…

Img2014_08_24_10-28-15Now this isn’t the ‘normal’ paint job…a rush order with a little ‘whatever weird stuff’ with ‘some retro’ added for spice. Radiation, post fallout stuff too so we got this:

Img2014_08_24_20-32-09 Img2014_08_24_20-32-14 Img2014_08_24_20-32-19 Img2014_08_24_20-32-57 Img2014_08_24_20-34-16 Img2014_08_24_20-34-32 Img2014_08_24_20-35-44 Img2014_08_24_20-36-27Yes this was an all free-hand,12 hour day job, but the client was more than happy for this work…

Oh yeah, we had these pics from a better camera and you can see the satin clear coat adds the protective finish supplementing the details without glaring reflection but a ‘worn and used’ look…

The “stage”

We are now working at Covenant Community Church in the same area and here is what we’ve done so far…Actually more, but we are a bit behind in the posting aspect due to the late hours involved. Hope you enjoy anyway just a brief walkabout the place for starters: Img2014_08_16_16-24-28 Img2014_08_16_16-24-15 Img2014_08_16_16-23-47 Img2014_08_16_16-23-37 Img2014_08_16_16-22-49 Img2014_08_16_16-24-58 Img2014_08_16_16-24-52Heh, just noticed the artist can’t seem to get out the frame completely…not selfies, but next time, use a real camera, ok?

Thanks for viewing – and come back for more updates on this project.

New Blog But Not Our First Rodeo

Howdy y’all! We appreciate your stopping by our virtual studio and gallery. We will eventually be adding homegrown music to our site so bear with us as we get the ball rolling…

Today is our first day of posting our work, but we have over 20 years experience, so you’re bound to see some cool artwork, and eventually music and video. We will post the newest works as a post, but the older work will end up in the portfolio.

Our current work is happening at Beachside Community Church in FWB, FL. If you’re in the area, stop by to see it in person – you may even catch our artist there! I’m sure you can also get a tour of the new build as well.
